StarLife Geet

StarLife is catching on thanks to shows like “Geet”

Revisited StarLife on DStv and stumbled on one of Nigeria’s favourite Bollywood actors, Gurmeet Chaudhary, in a new soap opera called “Geet.” And it was difficult to flick over.

In case you are wondering who Chaundhary is, he is fondly referred to as Yash because of his role in the Bollywood soapie “Married Again,” one of four soapies to first air when the Zee World channel launched on DStv and GOtv.

In StarLife’s “Geet,” Chaundhary plays Maan Singh Khurrana, aka MK. He is a wealthy businessman – managing director of Khurrana Constructions in Delhi. And one of the cities most eligible bachelors. MK likes a good challenge.

The show is named after the female lead, Geet Handa (Drashti Dhami). Geet is a young lady from a small town who was abandoned by her husband. She was almost a victim of a cruel tradition but she is saved by Maan and she gets a job as his secretary. But she struggles to fit in because her fellow female colleagues make fun of her, and keep ganging up against her. It appears that they all want Maan’s attention but he is uninterested.

Maan and Geet are from two different worlds so initially, for Maan the idea of being with Geet is unfathomable. But awkward circumstances continue to bring them together and Maan begins to fall for Geet because of her simplicity and childlike innocence. Yet, danger lies ahead – Geet’s past might come back to haunt them.

Chaudhary’s character is StarLife’s lastest soapie, “Geet” is just as you remember him in “Married Again.” Dramatic. Complicated. Caring yet hard to read. Sometimes comes across as stern.

“Geet” is a story about deception, rising about disappointments and love. It also stays true to the Bollywood formula we love – no locking of lips, yet one can feel the passion. A dance between Maan and Geet at an office party-gone-bad is so sensual.

It has been about 18 months since the launch of StarLife on DStv. Looks like the channel is finally catching on thanks soapies like “Geet.” “Geet” has 470 episodes. We hope it does not suffer the same fate as most of those on Zee World which start-off very exciting but the plot gets lost along way because the writers want to prolong the show unnecessarily.

“Geet” premiered on StarLife” on 16 December. It airs daily on DStv channel 167.
